Phytate is the major form of phosphorus found in cereal grains, beans and oilseed meals fed to poultry. Approximately 61–70% phosphorus found is in the form of phytate. The monogastric animals like poultry are unable to utilize this phytate phosphorus, as they lack production of endogenous phytase, which necessitates the addition of inorganic phosphates such as DCP/MCP to poultry diets. Addition of exogenous phytase has been recommended to poultry diets to improve utilization of phytate phosphorus and thereby reducing the excretion of phosphorus to the environment. It also helps to improve the availability of nutrients like protein, amino acids, minerals & energy by digestion and release of phytate complexed nutrients.
